I just don't get it. How can people cause pain to their dog and call it training? How can people cause pain to their dog at all? I have seen and heard of at least 6 cases of people training or trainers training with force/pain/punishment/coercion this week and it is making me sick. Anywhere from beating the dog with a shoe to stepping on the prong collar leash to make their dog stay down (this dog was supposedly "sent" to a trainer several years ago) to shocking a 4 month old puppy to get him to "obey" to a trainer yanking on a prong collar so hard the dog yelps and saying the dog is just startled. Wow has the world gone crazy? It makes me sick and breaks my heart. And on a happier note, I have had a number of new dogs and owners join lately. So happy for them as they have chosen the higher moral path to training their dog. They will be happy, their dog happy and trained. Their dog will stay in their home for life and be a valued member of their family. The pain and force trained? Not so good an outcome. :(

Sad. So sad.
I love talking to folks about their dogs. But not today. Guy drawing my blood today at the blood drive told me about his "bad" dog. A catahoula. She barks. Yea. She gets into garbage. Yea. Growls when he closes the door to her crate. Uh-oh. So he pulls her out and growls in her face and makes her submit with an alpha roll. And thought it was pretty funny when he used a shock collar on her and she jumped off all four feet and flipped over. And has no problem beating her with a shoe when she disobeys. And loves that she cowers around him. I was appalled. Wanted to be so mad at him. Tried to at least tell him not to take her growl away. I explained why. He said if she snaps at him or their child (oh yea they have a small one) he would kill her. Literally. He then said he thought his kid was allergic anyway so they were probably going to get rid of her. Sure. Ruin her then pass her on. I said at least give her to a no kill shelter. He said "The SPCA is no kill-right?" um-no. Idiot. I did not give him my card.
